Believing change is possible.

That’s where we begin.

Meet Moey

Educator & Coach

My teaching experience began, as with many teachers, with my dolls and stuffed animals as a child. I would set them in a circle and make up math worksheets for them to complete, and of course, graded them too. My mother recognized my appetite for learning early on and taught me to read when I was 2 ½ years old. I also loved the visual and performing arts and studied them all through my school years.

My passion for the arts led me to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Art & Design and when my daughter was young, I embraced my love for teaching. I earned my Master of Science Degree in Education, followed by multiple teaching certifications in the state of Massachusetts, most recently, Family, Health, and Consumer Sciences in 2021. I taught for years in public and private schools until I found a way to combine teaching and the arts, when I created The Costume Room. Here, I designed and created full shows of costumes and rented them to schools and theatre groups across the country. In my beautiful shop in Burlington, Massachusetts, I also taught sewing classes and workshops to kids. It was truly a dream come true for me.

While my business continued to expand and grow, I was suffering from the rare autoimmune disease, EGPA, and that created my biggest challenge. My desire to learn everything about how people change their health problems began. I watched a lot of documentaries while working on costumes alone in my shop. I tried some of the things that I learned about, and in May of 2017, I made a commitment to eat a fully plant-based diet for 2 weeks. I did my best to follow what I learned. Shopping and preparing healthy plant-based meals had a learning curve, but, after 10 days, I actually felt different. My spirit felt lighter. I felt happier. I already knew from my research that this was a good diet to pursue to change my health. I was committed. I was hooked.

Learning from the Experts

I read books, like How Not to Die, by Dr. Greger and The China Study, co-written by T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell. I took courses, both online and in-person, with Kris Carr and James Van Praagh, traveling to Canada, California, and to the Kripalu Center in Western Massachusetts, where I took workshops with Gabrielle Bernstein, Lauren Rainbow and John Holland. I also took the live online course with Dr. Brooke Goldner and Thomas Tadlock. Throughout the years of my studies to change my health, I became passionate about the effect that the plant-based diet had on me. After earning my certification as a Vegan Lifestyle Coach & Educator in NYC with Victoria Moran, I became even more enthusiastic. Through that class, I learned about the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition studies and earned my Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition through e-cornell.

After my divorce, I packed up The Costume Room and moved it all into my duplex apartment in Rochester, NY for three years, including the COVID years. I found another way to continue as a teacher by teaching English lessons online to children in China, which I continue to love, and do, to this day.

While in Rochester, I was amazed to find Dr. Thomas Campbell, co-author of The China Study, working at one of the city hospitals. He was offering an in-person class, through the Highland Hospital Bariatric Department. While I was not a bariatric patient, I asked to be part of the class and explained what I was going through, how I was on a daily high dose of Prednisone, had tried a variety of biologic injectable meds, gained a lot of weight, and my goal was to get off of the meds and lose the weight. I had the initial check-up with him, including the labs, and he approved my admission to the class. I learned so much in that class about the actual effect that different kinds of foods has our bodies, and the weekly weigh-ins motivated me to follow the required diet guidelines. I lost weight consistently every week, but was not able to get off the meds. Still, I was very happy to have a method and the knowledge about the science behind that way of eating, which ultimately helped me to succeed with the weight loss.

I moved back to Massachusetts in 2021, not wanting to be away from my daughter any longer, especially after COVID. I reconnected with my medical team at Mass General, adding a few more specialists, in Boston. In 2025, at last, my labs came back showing no signs of disease. I was overwhelmed with emotion as I read my doctor’s message: Wow; I would not have predicted that and only typically see that with patients actively on oral steroids … these suggest that EGPA has somehow resolved… which is honestly something I have not seen before. While it took 10 years for me to, as Dr. Greger may say, “reverse” my idiopathic autoimmune disease, I never gave up my goal and ambition. It was the only outcome I imagined.

My first journal entry for my class with James Van Praagh, where I earned my Spiritual Healer certificate.

My Process

The principles I teach stem from the knowledge I’ve gained and what helped me reclaim my own health. They include plant-based nutrition, finding therapy, mindfulness, movement, self-care, introduction to holistic practices and consistent communication and care with your medical team.

As a teacher, I know that every person is different in the way they learn, their priorities and lifestyles. My role in coaching is to help each individual find how to apply the techniques and lifestyle changes to their lives and instill the practices that work in helping them progress toward better health, peace and happiness.

If there’s one thing my journey taught me, it’s this: no matter how difficult the circumstances, hope is power. Sometimes getting your life back begins with believing that a better future is possible. I found that I was the key player in recovering peace and health in my life and figuring out what that looks like.

To me, health is not just physical. It’s mental, emotional and spiritual as well. The state of each affects the others. There were parts of myself I hadn’t thought about in a long time when I became ill. It took the severe state of health to make me realize the truth that every part of me, whether I had been acknowledging it in my life or ignoring it, mattered. When I say, ‘Whole Self Healing,’ that’s exactly what I mean.
